Referral is the most common path and carries the clearest signal. The person who referred you has already done a form of qualification.

You have a specific situation that warrants a conversation. No referral. No prior relationship. Describe the shape of the work with enough context to allow a genuine response.
Inquiries without sufficient context are not progressed. This is not gatekeeping — it is the only way to have a useful first conversation.
