Most engagements begin through introduction. Occasionally through a direct inquiry that demonstrates enough context to warrant a conversation. The shape of the work is discussed before any commitment is made. This protects both parties.

We prefer depth over volume. Capacity is managed to ensure appropriate attention for each engagement. Not every situation is a match — and saying so clearly at the outset is a form of respect. The qualification conversation is itself informative.

The details are rarely the problem. The connections between them usually are. Engagements are structured around the actual objective — which is sometimes different from the stated one. Clarity about the mandate is the foundation of useful work.
